John Goebel
Tail Back
6’1" 215 lbs.
High School Coach: Al Fracassa
High School: Birmingham Brother Rice, A
College: University of Cincinnati

As a senior playing tailback, John had 2,145 all-purpose yards and 21 touchdowns (1,917 Yards Rushing, 7.4 Yards Per Carry, 18 Touchdowns, 79 Yards Receiving, 11.3 Yards Per Catch, 1 Touchdown). As a safety on defense, John had 4 Interceptions returned for 89 Yards (1 Touchdown), 2 Fumble Recoveries (including 60 Yard Touchdown), 67 Tackles (40 solo, 27 assist), and 5 Pass Breakups. As a junior, he rushed for 1173 Yards.

John’s father, Karl, coached his first six teams as he did for older brother Mark’s first six teams. John’s youth teams were undefeated during their last four seasons. John’s freshman Brother Rice team was undefeated. His sophomore year, he made varsity, and Rice was Division 2 State Runners-Up. During John’s junior year, Brother Rice was 10-1. This past 2005 season was truly a wonderful way to end the Goebel family era at Brother Rice, with the Warriors winning the Division 2 State Championship.
The Goebel men owe much to Coach Al Fracassa, Michigan’s #1 in Wins (354) high school football coach. He coached Karl in the early 70s, Mark in the late 90s, and now John. Brother Rice was undefeated Karl’s senior year (1974) and Michigan’s last Class A "Mythical" State Champion. Mark’s 1999 senior team made it to the State Championship, but lost by a touchdown to Saginaw.

The Goebel family is very excited about John’s opportunity to be a Bearcat for the University of Cincinnati.
