Garrett is the son of Cliff and Jane Cross. He has two brothers, Clay (22) and Zac (20), and a sister, Brooke (17).

Garrett started playing football in the second grade. He’s been on the varsity football team since he was a freshman. Garrett played both sides of the ball, defensive back and running back. He was voted most valuable offensive player in both his junior and senior years. In Garrett’s varsity career, he had over 3,000 yards on total offense with 36 touchdowns and over 170 tackles. He was All Conference three years.

He’s been a three sport athlete his entire high school career participating in football, basketball and track and field. He earned four varsity letters in football, three in basketball and three in track. Garrett was part of the Bulldog basketball team that won a conference championship for the first time in 23 years. In Garrett’s junior year of basketball, at the end of the seventh game, he went up for a layup and tore his ACL in his right knee. After surgery, he worked extremely hard to get back to playing football. Six months to the day of his surgery, he played in the opening game of his senior year for BCHS. He gave a special thanks to Joe, BCHS athletic trainer, who gave him great guidance in his recovery. Garrett was also involved in Pride Pack at BCHS, an organization that helps organize school and community activities.

Garrett thanked his whole family, all of his coaches and teammates, and also the community of Byron Center "for supporting me throughout my four years at BCHS." He especially thanked Coach Cisco, "who has brought out my full potential in the sport and taught me valuable leadership skills that I will carry with me for the rest of my life."
