Assistant Coach Gene Skidmore

Wyandotte Roosevelt High School

 

Gene Skidmore lives in Wyandotte with Ruth, his wife of 31 years. They have two sons: Gene played football at Wyandotte, graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 2002 and is now on the University of Michigan football staff. Brian graduated from EMU with a History degree in April; he also played football for the Bears.

 

Gene has been teaching in Wyandotte for 31 years and coaching football for 35. He has coached at all levels from seventh grade to varsity and has assisted eight different head coaches. While at Wyandotte, Gene has coached along side of MHSAA Hall of Famers Jim Buttson, and Mike and Ron Pascuzzi. The last 11 years he has worked under Rod Baker, who led the Bears to a Mega Red Co-championship in 1996 and the State Playoff Semi-finals in 2001.

 

Coaching has been a big part of Gene’s life. In addition to football, he has coached baseball, swimming, boys and girls basketball and girls track at both the high school and the middle school level. In 2002, he received the MHSFCA assistant coach of the year award. Gene graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education, in 1970. He returned for a Master’s Degree in P.E. in 1978. He said, "Once a Huron, always a Huron".

 

Coach Skidmore said, "I consider coaching in this All Star Game an honor and a privilege. I am looking forward to working with the top graduates in the State of Michigan. I would like to thank the MHSFCA for this opportunity."
