Mifsud, Dave2008 All Star Coach East

Assistant Coach Dave Mifsud
Dearborn High School

Dave is teaching and coaching at his alma mater, Dearborn HS (1982), where he stood out as a three sport athlete. He earned his BA from Hillsdale College where he set records as a wide receiver on the 1985 National Championship team.  He was also a co-captain of the Charger’s Track team. Dave earned his Masters in Educational Leadership from EMU.

Dave had the opportunity to learn from some great mentors including his former high school coaches Gene Snell in basketball, and the legendary Robert Bridges in track.  In football, mentors included Chuck Baughman at Dearborn High, and Jack Bridges at Edsel Ford.  Dave became the head basketball coach at Dearborn HS in 1995, and two years later, in 1997, he was named the head football coach at DHS.  He did this "double duty" for two years before giving up the basketball position to focus on football.

In his eleven years as head football coach, Dave’s teams have qualified for the state playoffs 7 times and reached the State Semi-Finals in 2004 and 2006. He was named MHSFCA Regional Coach of the year in 2001, 2004 and 2006. Dave has become the winningest football coach in Dearborn High’s football history.  He attributes the success he has had, to the great players over the years and to the outstanding coaches he has been honored to work with.

Dave thanked his parents Pat and Joe for everything they have done for him in his life.  Joe is his hero - and his biggest fan. Dave also is grateful for the, "incredible support I have received from my family and close friends throughout my entire coaching career." He singled-out the, "overwhelming support, sacrifice, and understanding from my wife Coryn."  The couple has raised three wonderful children Samantha (20), Anthony (18) and C.J. (14).

Coach Mifsud was a MHSFCA All Star football player in 1982. He said, "I am extremely honored to be part of this year’s All Star staff and blessed to have the opportunity to coach my son Anthony (Quarterback) in this year’s game. I thank the football coaches association for selecting me for this tremendous opportunity. This is special." He added: "I am fortunate to have grown up in my community and am proud to represent it today.   I thank all the Dearborn High supporters and boosters for everything they have done over the years.  I am proud to be a Pioneer."
