2011 Assistant Coach Ernie Ayers

 Sand Creek High School

Coach Ayers graduated from Sand Creek High School in 1971. He attended Olivet College where he earned his Bachelors degree in education. Ernie’s first coaching experience was as a junior high assistant at Deerfield. After one year, he began his high school coaching career as a junior varsity assistant at Sand Creek under Head Coach Ken Wilson and Hall of Fame Coach Al Romano. 

Coach Ayers has been a teacher at Sand Creek since 1977. He has taught athletic conditioning, psychology/sociology, physical education and world history. Coach Ayers has been the head coach since 1979. He has a record of 239-92-1. During this time Sand Creek has won 13 Tri-County Conference Championships, had 27 winning seasons, 17 playoff appearances, eight semifinal appearances and played for the State Championship once. In 2002 Coach Ayers was inducted into the MHSFCA Hall of Fame. He was named Division 7 AP Coach of the Year in 2006. Coach Ayers also is the Boys Varsity Track coach. 

Coach Ayers has two daughters, Adrienne (24), a Graduate of Western Michigan University and Catherine, (20) a student at Michigan State University. "We would have never been a success without the never ending support of my family. For that, I am forever grateful. I am also grateful for having the opportunity to work with coaches at Sand Creek that have such a great passion for our young men and the game of football." He said, "I thank the MHSFCA for the opportunity to work with some of the best coaches and athletes in the State of Michigan. It is an honor and privilege to be a part of this game."
